Set Design

This is the background scenery for the rat race sequence.  I wanted the buildings to appear imperfect and rough to portray them as insignificant.  The charcoal adds a depth that is difficult to achieve with other mediums on paper and the different toned buildings give the illusion of space.

This is a picture of a model I found on the internet which provided some inspiration for the brain room.  It is a set that came up during an Alice in Wonderland search.

I also found this example of an Alice in Wonderland scene which also served to influence my vision of the brain room.

This is the floor pattern that I will be using for the base of the brain room.

These are conceptual sketches of the brain room, how I want it to look and possibilities of structure.

These are progress photos of the door I created.  The door was carved out of balsa wood using a stanley knife.  It was then painted using acrylic paints.  I aim to paint it a bit more to try to add age and depth to it.  I also plan to add decorative hinges, functional hinges and a door ring.  And features to further exaggerate the preoccupation with time and efficiency that our society has come to hold as important.

The final sequences which take place deep within the person, beyond the brain room, exist in a kind of internal forest.  Again, I have been heavily influenced by Alice in Wonderland aesthetics.  I like the idea of stumbling amongst the unknown.  The dark forest represents threats, and as the camera journeys through the forest it comes across scenes that are meant to remain hidden.

As I wish to create my forest out of paper, I sought examples of this which represent similar aesthetics to that which I wish to achieve

This is the forest scene set that I created
